CEIR co-signs the joint industry statement on shaping a New Deal for the Single Market and EU standards

Monday 27 January 2020

CEIR, together with other 20 European trade association, has co-signed the joint industry statement: Shaping a New Deal for the Single Market - Harmonised standards in support of a competitive European industry, recommending to:

  1. Urgently conduct as part of the European Union’s industrial strategy an independent assessment of the interpretation of Regulation 1025/2012 on European standardisation and its impact on users and developers. The objective should be to identify ways to improve the governance and effectiveness of the system for development, assessment and use of harmonised standards.
  2. Restore efficient mechanisms for the development, assessment and use of relevant, state-of-the-art harmonised standards that respond to market needs and support the application of EU law. This includes ensuring the necessary flexibility in the Commission standardisation requests and a timely citation of harmonised standards.
  3. Involve industry and other economic operators as full partners in any discussion on European standardisation policy from inception to implementation.
