CEIR Contribution to the Public Consultation on the Revision of the Machinery Directive

Tuesday 22 October 2019

CEIR submitted its contribution to the Revision of the Machinery Directive. CEIR is satisfied with the current scope and provisions of the Directive. Within the part on Definitions, CEIR considers that the current definitions are appropriated and they do not need to be revised.

CEIR calls for consistency with the interpretation considering valves outside the scope of the Machinery Directive. Indeed, motorized valves, actuated valves and valves intended to be fitted with actuators are not subject to the Machinery Directive since they do not fully respect the machinery definition. These have no specific application, are not only intended to be integrated into machines and should be considered as an ordinary component. For these reasons they cannot be considered machineries.

Here, the Contribution to the Public Consultation and the CEIR supporting Document.
